Cellarius and Trouvelot
Andreas Cellarius's Harmonia Macrocosmica of 1660 is the most beautiful celestial atlas ever printed, its hand-coloured plates showing the Ptolemaic and Copernican systems and the constellations drawn as figures. Two centuries later Étienne Léopold Trouvelot drew the planets, the Sun and the aurora from telescopic observation for the Astronomical Drawings of 1881, pastels that are still astonishing for their accuracy.
Modern star maps
Alongside the historical plates we design our own star charts in-house: the sky over a city on a date, the zodiac constellations and the northern and southern hemispheres, drawn from catalogued star positions. They are made for bedrooms and nurseries and for marking a birthday or a wedding.
