Japanese & Zen Wall Art
Quiet pieces in the Japanese manner: one focal motif, generous whitespace, a red hanko seal — cherry blossom across a gold moon, a torii standing in still water, two koi circling, a single brushstroke ensō. Drawn in-house, and joined by restored Ohara Koson woodblock prints. Printed to order on heavyweight matte paper.

Koson, Bairei and the kachō-e tradition
Ohara Koson, working in Tokyo from about 1900 until his death in 1945, revived the kachō-e, the bird-and-flower woodblock print, with designs that are spare, exact and still: a crow on a snowy branch, egrets in rain, a sandpiper among reeds. His prints sold mainly to Europe and America, where they shaped the idea of Japanese design. Kōno Bairei, a generation earlier, worked the same subjects in a looser hand.
Our Zen line
Alongside the woodblocks we design minimal prints in-house in the same spirit: an ensō, a torii, bamboo and maple, each with a seal and a caption. The two groups hang well together; the woodblocks give the colour, the Zen prints the calm.
