Where the plates come from
The animal prints are restored from the great illustrated natural histories of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries: Audubon's birds and mammals, Gould's hummingbirds and birds of Asia, Haeckel's marine forms, Seba's cabinet of curiosities, Bloch's fishes, Seitz's butterflies and the entomological plates of Westwood and Jacobson. Each was drawn from specimens and hand-coloured, which is why they remain better than photographs for a wall.
Two editions
Upright plates are offered both full-bleed and as captioned specimens on a cream ground; landscape plates are offered as specimens only, so nothing is cropped. Every print carries the species name, the Latin binomial and the source work.
