Between 1886 and 1942 the USDA's watercolourists painted American strawberries from life — Alpha, Beauty, Ruby, Rough Rider, Early Ozark and dozens more, many now lost to cultivation. Restored from the originals and offered full-bleed or as a framed specimen on a deep forest ground with the variety name and the artist who painted it. Why so many strawberries
The strawberry was one of the most heavily bred fruits in American history, and the USDA documented the varieties one by one — which is why this collection runs to 67 named strawberries rather than the single generic "strawberry print" you'll find elsewhere. Each was painted from a real ripe specimen, and each carries the variety's name.
