A bright yellow path runs along a riverbank lined with cherry trees in pink bloom, leading toward the dark grove of the Azuma no mori shrine, where a tall tree rises above the rest. Boats move on the river in the foreground and a line of geese crosses the pale sky. The print is number thirty-one in One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, published by Uoya Eikichi, with a censor's seal of the seventh month of 1856. The entwined tree of the title, two trunks grown together, was a noted sight at the shrine. Hiroshige uses a high viewpoint and strong diagonals of path and river; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This full-bleed edition prints the work edge to edge from a high-resolution scan of the original, very slightly cropped (a few percent at most) to fit the sheet. The gallery edition shows the whole work, uncropped. The original is in the public domain.
