Tall pines with red trunks frame the left side of the sheet on a green rise, and a path leads down to a small thatched teahouse at the lower right, where travellers rest under the trees. Beyond, a wide pale plain stretches to blue hills and a white Fuji under a red band of sky. The print is number eighty-four in One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, published by Uoya Eikichi, with a censor's seal of the fourth month of 1857. The teahouse at Meguro was a resting place on the hills south-west of Edo, with a famous view of Fuji. The soft plain and the bare trees give the scene an autumn quiet; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This full-bleed edition prints the work edge to edge from a high-resolution scan of the original, very slightly cropped (a few percent at most) to fit the sheet. The gallery edition shows the whole work, uncropped. The original is in the public domain.
