A wooden bridge crosses a calm inlet at dusk, with a restaurant building at the right and pines on the banks silhouetted against a red evening sky. In the foreground two women walk along the water's edge toward a waiting boat among the reeds. The print is number ninety-two in One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, published by Uoya Eikichi, with a censor's seal of the twelfth month of 1857. Mokuboji was a temple on the upper Sumida, and the fields along the Uchigawa inlet beside it grew vegetables for the shogun's table. The red horizon band is printed with a strong bokashi that glows behind the dark trees; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
