Where it works

Steadman's 1919 Queen avocado fills the sheet, a huge pear-shaped fruit with pebbled near-black skin and a dull sheen down one side. Its dark bulk suits a dining room or home bar at 16×24 in a black frame on a warm white or terracotta wall.

Style, size & framing detail

Style: Vintage botanical watercolour
Era: 1886–1942 (USDA watercolours)
Orientation: Portrait
Palette: black, chocolate brown, cream
Mood: bold, sophisticated
Rooms: dining room, home bar
Good gift for: cooks

Size. We'd hang this one at 16×24. Prints at 12×18, 16×24 in — 12×18 for a shelf, desk or a gallery-wall grid; 16×24 above a desk, console or in a hallway.

Framing. The label ground is its own mat: a slim black or natural wood frame, no extra mat.

Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other kitchen prints (10% off three or more).
