A steep green cliff topped with pines rises at the left, where a few small figures stand looking out, and below it the Tone River winds away past reedy banks toward a white Fuji on the far horizon. Sailing boats with full white sails move along the water. The print is number ninety-five in One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, published by Uoya Eikichi, with a censor's seal of the fifth month of 1856. Kōnodai, on the bank of the river east of Edo, was a celebrated lookout. Hiroshige's tall cliff and the long river make strong use of the vertical format; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This full-bleed edition prints the work edge to edge from a high-resolution scan of the original, very slightly cropped (a few percent at most) to fit the sheet. The gallery edition shows the whole work, uncropped. The original is in the public domain.
