A massive wooden pier of the Eitai Bridge fills the left edge and a beam slants across the right, framing a night view over the river mouth toward Tsukudajima, where the masts of moored ships stand against a black, star-filled sky. Under a crescent moon, small fishing boats work by firelight, their flames reflected as red streaks on the water. The print is number four in One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, published by Uoya Eikichi, with a censor's seal of the second month of 1857. Tsukudajima was a fishing island at the mouth of the Sumida River, known for fishing by torchlight at night. The dark sky is printed in solid ink with tiny reserved stars, a rare night scene in the series; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This full-bleed edition prints the work edge to edge from a high-resolution scan of the original, very slightly cropped (a few percent at most) to fit the sheet. The gallery edition shows the whole work, uncropped. The original is in the public domain.
