Long green fronds of willow hang down from the top of the sheet, framing a calm view across the water to a long bridge, the stone walls of the castle moat and a white Fuji on the horizon. A boat drifts across the river below, swallows dart through the air, and the curve of a bridge railing enters at the lower right. The print is number forty-five in One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, published by Uoya Eikichi, with a censor's seal of the eighth month of 1856. Yatsumi means eight views: the bridge was so called because eight bridges could be seen from it. The willow, printed in fine green strokes, acts as a curtain over the whole scene; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
Willow green, soft blue water and a small white Fuji, for a bedroom, bathroom or study at 24×36 in natural wood. It pairs with Hokusai's Under the Mannen Bridge at Fukagawa for two views of Fuji framed by a bridge.

Size. We'd hang this one at 24×36. Prints at 12×18, 16×24, 24×36 in — 12×18 for a shelf, desk or a gallery-wall grid; 16×24 above a desk, console or in a hallway; 24×36 as the statement piece above a sofa or bed.
Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — natural wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
