Branches of a silk tree in pink, feathery flower hang across the top of the sheet, and below, a raftsman in a straw hat poles a timber raft along the calm Ayase River between banks of tall reeds. A swallow darts above the water and a line of trees stands on the far bank under a red horizon. The print is number sixty-three in One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, published by Uoya Eikichi, with a censor's seal of the first month of 1857. Kanegafuchi lay where the Ayase River joins the Sumida, on the rural north-eastern edge of the city. The silk tree flowers in summer, placing the view in the summer section of the series; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
