Two tall cedars rise from a grassy bluff where visitors sit at low teahouse benches among cherry trees in pink bloom. Beyond, a wide green plain opens out toward distant mountains under a rose band of sky. The print is number fifteen in One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, published by Uoya Eikichi, with a censor's seal of the fifth month of 1856. The bluff at Nippori, near the Suwa shrine, was a popular lookout where people came to enjoy blossoms and the view over the fields to the north. Hiroshige sets the dark verticals of the cedars against the soft horizontal plain; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
