Under a canopy of green trees, a young man in a straw hat and dark suit walks beside a woman in a red skirt and blue jacket holding a white parasol, while at the right another figure in white passes by; tree trunks in violet and black frame the scene, and a yellow path runs through it. The figures have no detailed faces, and the light falls in soft patches of colour. Macke painted it on cardboard in 1913, the first picture he made after moving with his family to Hilterfingen on Lake Thun in Switzerland, where he spent eight months working intensively. The influence of Robert Delaunay, whom he had visited in Paris the year before, shows in the luminous, unoutlined colour. Walks through parks and along the water became his central subject in the months before his death in the war. It is in the Lenbachhaus in Munich.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
