A castle stands on a rocky height at the right, its tiered keep rising above high stone walls and blue-roofed halls, with a red bridge below where small figures pass. Pines grow from the rocks, and a broad blue river curves away to the left, where a single boat drifts. Beyond lie misty flats, a village and a range of yellow and grey mountains under a pink horizon. This is print fifty-three of The Sixty-nine Stations of the Kisokaidō, published by Hōeidō (Takenouchi Magohachi), c. 1835–36. Keisai Eisen, who designed it, began the series and Utagawa Hiroshige completed it. Unuma was the fifty-second station on the Nakasendō, the inland road from Edo to Kyoto, and the title names the distant view of Inuyama Castle; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This full-bleed edition prints the work edge to edge from a high-resolution scan of the original, very slightly cropped (a few percent at most) to fit the sheet. The gallery edition shows the whole work, uncropped. The original is in the public domain.
