At dusk, two women in hoods stand in a ferry boat at the left as the boatman waits, while the branches of a large tree and a willow hang over the river from the right. Across the wide grey-blue water, low roofs line the far bank under a darkening sky. The print is number one hundred and five in One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, published by Uoya Eikichi, with a censor's seal of the twelfth month of 1857. Oumayagashi was a riverbank on the Sumida beside the shogunate's rice granaries, where a ferry crossed to the eastern side. The muted colours and the stones along the shore give the print a cool winter evening mood; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This full-bleed edition prints the work edge to edge from a high-resolution scan of the original, very slightly cropped (a few percent at most) to fit the sheet. The gallery edition shows the whole work, uncropped. The original is in the public domain.
