A sudden gust sweeps across an open marsh: travellers on a winding path clutch their hats and bend into the wind, a woman's sheets of paper fly away into the sky, and a hat spins through the air. The trees bend, and Mount Fuji is drawn only as a single thin outline on the horizon. The print belongs to Hokusai's Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, published around 1830–1832 by Nishimuraya Yohachi (Eijudō). Ejiri was a post town on the Tōkaidō road in Suruga province. Hokusai captures a single moment of weather and movement, with the mountain reduced to its simplest form; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
Soft greens and cream under a pink sky with flying papers, for a hallway, study or home office at 36×24 in natural wood. It pairs with Tago Bay near Ejiri on the Tōkaidō, its neighbour on the same road.

Size. We'd hang this one at 36×24. Prints at 18×12, 24×16, 36×24 in — 18×12 for a shelf, desk or a gallery-wall grid; 24×16 above a console or sideboard; 36×24 as the statement piece above a sofa or headboard.
Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — natural wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
