On the balcony of a teahouse on a snowy hillside, a group of women looks out across white rooftops toward Mount Fuji, which rises clean and white under a deep blue sky. Snow lies on the pine branches and roofs, and a few birds fly across the clear morning air. The print belongs to Hokusai's Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, published around 1830–1832 by Nishimuraya Yohachi (Eijudō). Koishikawa was a hilly district of Edo, and the view captures the bright stillness of a winter morning after snowfall. The white of the snow is left as bare paper against the blue; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This full-bleed edition prints the work edge to edge from a high-resolution scan of the original, very slightly cropped (a few percent at most) to fit the sheet. The gallery edition shows the whole work, uncropped. The original is in the public domain.
