A string of red oxen loaded with great bundles of brushwood is driven across the foreground by farmers, while white birds fly over the marshy fields behind them. Above long bands of mist, Mount Fuji rises white against the sky. The print is one of the ten additional views Hokusai added to his Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, published around 1830–1832 by Nishimuraya Yohachi (Eijudō), and like the others it is printed with black outlines. The new fields at Ōno in Suruga province were farmland reclaimed from marsh near the coast. The strong red of the oxen stands out against the cool greens and blues; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This full-bleed edition prints the work edge to edge from a high-resolution scan of the original, very slightly cropped (a few percent at most) to fit the sheet. The gallery edition shows the whole work, uncropped. The original is in the public domain.
