A woman in profile, with a jewelled diadem and a great mass of red-gold hair that curls into loops across the lower panel, is set against a halo ringed with the twelve signs of the zodiac, with laurel and sunflower motifs filling the frame. Mucha designed it in Paris in 1896 as an in-house calendar for his printer F. Champenois, and the design was quickly taken up by the art magazine La Plume, which issued it as its own calendar for 1897; it was later sold as a decorative panel without the calendar grid, as here. The profile head on a decorative disc became one of his most imitated formulas. It is among the most reproduced of all his images and survives in at least nine variants with different text and borders.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
