A narrow canal runs along a raised embankment lined with tall, thin trees in autumn leaf, crossed by a small wooden bridge in the foreground, and beyond it golden rice fields stretch away to a red horizon. A few walkers follow the path, and small figures gather beneath the trees at the lower right. The print is number one hundred and four in One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, published by Uoya Eikichi, with a censor's seal of the second month of 1857. Koume was a rural village east of the Sumida, and the embankment ran beside a canal through its fields. The warm yellows of the fields set this apart from the cooler river views; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
