Four rose-red, star-like flowers meet at the centre among yellow-green leaves, inside a frame of sea-green acanthus and looping pink ribbons, all stitched on a pale natural ground with a fringed edge. The design is by William Morris; this cushion cover, made around 1900, was embroidered by Annie May Hegeman and sold through Morris's firm, which offered such pieces as kits, a popular and inexpensive way to acquire a Morris design. It is worked in mercerized cotton, a thread treated to give it a silk-like lustre, on a cotton ground. The Cooper Hewitt records it as a gift from Hegeman herself in 1936, and it was shown in the museum's exhibition Botanical Expressions. It measures 70 centimetres square.

This print shows the whole sample, uncropped, from a high-resolution museum scan of the original. The design is in the public domain.
