A small rose tree with five peach flowers and yellow-green leaves grows from a pink trunk inside a blue roundel, framed by a green lattice and large pale oak-like leaves at the corners, the whole edged with a looped fringe. Rose Wreath was designed by William Morris; this late nineteenth-century cushion cover in the Cooper Hewitt was embroidered by Annie May Hegeman in cotton and mercerized cotton, using darning, stem and couching stitches with laid work. Morris's firm sold embroidery kits, a popular and inexpensive way of owning a Morris design while doing the stitching oneself; from 1885 its embroidery department was run by his daughter May. The cover measures 55 centimetres square.

This print shows the whole sample, uncropped, from a high-resolution museum scan of the original. The design is in the public domain.
