A steep earth-covered bridge arches over a blue stream in the foreground, crossed by a few travellers, and beyond it bright yellow fields sweep away in broad bands toward a dark wooded hill under a red and pink sky. Green banks and trees break up the open land. The print is number one hundred and sixteen in One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, published by Uoya Eikichi, with a censor's seal of the first month of 1857. The Omokage and Sugatami bridges, names meaning remembered face and mirror, crossed streams near Takata on the north-west edge of Edo. The strong yellows make this one of the brightest designs in the series; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This full-bleed edition prints the work edge to edge from a high-resolution scan of the original, very slightly cropped (a few percent at most) to fit the sheet. The gallery edition shows the whole work, uncropped. The original is in the public domain.
