A procession of men in blue coats carrying long poles over their shoulders files along a raised path through the rice fields in the foreground, past a thatched shelter at the right. Beyond, the tiled roofs of Senju line the middle distance, and a white Fuji rises above the far hills and water. The print is one of the ten additional views Hokusai added to his Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, published around 1830–1832 by Nishimuraya Yohachi (Eijudō), and like the others it is printed with black outlines. The title refers to the pleasure quarter at Senju, a post town on the roads north of Edo, though the picture itself shows the road and fields. The long line of marching figures leads the eye across the sheet; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
Soft greens and blues with a line of figures in indigo and a white Fuji, for a study, hallway or home office at 24×16 in natural wood. It pairs with Senju in Musashi Province for two views at Senju.

Size. We'd hang this one at 24×16. Prints at 18×12, 24×16 in — 18×12 for a shelf, desk or a gallery-wall grid; 24×16 above a console or sideboard.
Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — natural wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
