A nude woman sits hunched on a green slope with her eyes closed, and around her stand a yellow house, two ochre lions, a pair of blue horses and a small red animal, set among hills of pink, green and yellow. The animals are calm, and the scene has the stillness of a sleeper's vision rather than a story. Marc painted it in 1912, when he was joining the dreamlike figure groups of Gauguin and the Symbolists to his own animal world and his symbolic palette of blue, yellow and red. The blue horses recur from other works of these years, such as Blue Horse I, and the picture is one of the few in which he set a human figure among his animals as an equal part of nature. It was acquired for the Thyssen-Bornemisza collection in 1978 and is in the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.

Size. We'd hang this one at 32×24. Prints at 16×12, 24×18, 32×24 in — 16×12 for a shelf, desk or a gallery-wall grid; 24×18 above a console or sideboard; 32×24 as the statement piece above a sofa or headboard.
Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — natural wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
