Editor’s picks
The 12 we’d start with, and who each one suits.

Blazing orange drapery against a sunlit sea carries a whole bedroom wall, the warm glow centred over a wide double headboard.

Klimt's field of gold ornament needs room to shimmer, so give it the main sightline of a dark-walled dining room or lounge.

Towering sunflowers and blue-and-white pots on a garden path open up a tall entry or a kitchen wall that faces the back door.

A heron and egret above bold VISIT THE ZOO lettering gives a playroom, family room or retro-styled hallway a big graphic hit.

Fine pale blue lines sweeping over deep navy look like combed silk at large scale, made for a calm master bedroom or minimalist living room.

Turner's flames and smoke over the Thames hold a long dining room or study wall where a smaller print would simply disappear.

Van Gogh's pink blossom under a pale blue sky brings spring to a bright bedroom or sunroom, tender enough for a shared family space.

Concentric rings in sage, clay and mustard on pale stone suit a mid-century living room with warm wood and plenty of houseplants.

Haeckel's blue, coral and red jellyfish trailing their tentacles turn a big bathroom or ocean-themed bedroom into a cabinet of wonders.

For a grand hallway or a living room you can step back in: Velázquez's dim palace room resolves best from across the floor.

Church's still forest river dissolving into dawn haze spans the wall above a long sofa, a quiet window onto somewhere far away.

Gould's cobalt fairywrens scaled up show every feather, a lively choice for a birder's study or a reading room painted cream.

What prints at 24×36
Only artwork whose source scan is sharp enough is offered at 24 by 36 inches: the famous paintings, the Audubon folio plates, the bold abstracts, the star charts and the WPA posters. Natural-history plates scanned at lower resolution are capped at 16×24 so that nothing soft is ever sold large.
Using a large print
A single 24×36 above a sofa, a bed or a sideboard is the simplest way to finish a room. Paintings in landscape format, such as Monet's water lilies or Hokusai's wave, are the obvious choices; an upright Audubon heron or a Mucha panel suits a tall, narrow wall.
