The roofs of Ishiyakushi Temple stand among dark trees at the left, at the foot of a rounded mountain shaded from teal green to soft blue. In the fields in front, sheaves of harvested rice stand in stacks, farmers work the ground, and a rider approaches the temple gate along a path. The print is number forty-five in the Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō, published by Hōeidō (Takenouchi Magohachi) in 1833–34. The station of Ishiyakushi, the forty-fourth, took its name from the temple, which is dedicated to Yakushi, the Buddha of healing, whose image there is carved in stone; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
