After a snowfall, a steep white slope climbs diagonally across the sheet toward the walls of Kameyama Castle at the upper right, and a procession winds up the road through snow-laden pines. Below to the left the rooftops of the town lie under snow, and the clear sky shades from blue at the top to pale pink near the horizon. The print is number forty-seven in the Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō, published by Hōeidō (Takenouchi Magohachi) in 1833–34. Kameyama, the forty-sixth station, was a castle town in Ise Province set on high ground above the road, and Hiroshige lets the diagonal of the hillside divide the picture almost in two; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
