A fisherman stands at the very tip of a rock jutting into a churning river, leaning back on his lines, with a boy crouched behind him, while waves break into white foam below. Above the mist, the outline of Mount Fuji is drawn in a few faint lines. The print belongs to Hokusai's Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, published around 1830–1832 by Nishimuraya Yohachi (Eijudō). Kajikazawa is on the Fuji River in Kai province, and Hokusai builds the whole design on the triangle of rock and fisherman echoing the mountain. It is one of the most admired prints in the series; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
