- Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji
Travellers and packhorses climb a steep green slope at the Inume Pass, one figure already near the top at the right, while across the valley Mount Fuji rises above a reddish-brown foothill and drifting mist. The upper slopes of the mountain are dark blue flecked with white snow. The print belongs to Hokusai's Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, published around 1830–1832 by Nishimuraya Yohachi (Eijudō). The pass lay on the Kōshū road in Kai province, north of Fuji, and gave travellers a broad view of the mountain. The gentle curve of the slope balances the triangle of the mountain; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
