Vintage Rose Prints
The most celebrated roses ever painted. Pierre-Joseph Redouté — court painter to the Empress Joséphine — spent years at Malmaison recording her rose garden in stipple engraving, and the result, Les Roses (1817–24), is still the benchmark for botanical rose illustration two centuries on. Restored from the original plates: the Damask, the Provence cabbage rose, the China and Bengal roses, the moss rose and more, each with its botanical name. Printed museum-quality on heavyweight matte paper.

Redouté's roses
Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759–1840) was the greatest botanical artist of his age — "the Raphael of flowers." Les Roses gathered 170 varieties from the Empress Joséphine's garden at Malmaison, each rendered in the delicate stipple-engraving he pioneered, which gives the petals their soft, luminous gradation. Two centuries later they're still the roses people picture when they picture a botanical rose print.
The varieties
The collection runs from the old European roses — Damask, Provence (cabbage), moss and Gallica — to the China and Bengal roses newly arrived from the East that would transform rose breeding forever. Each print carries the variety's period name and its botanical name.
Where they work
Roses are the most romantic botanical you can hang — bedrooms, dressing rooms, a soft-toned living room. A single stem reads as quietly elegant; three different roses hung as a trio is a classic gallery-wall move, and three or more prints take 10% off automatically. Framed or unframed on heavyweight matte fine-art paper, free worldwide shipping.
