A dancer in a white dress kicks up her skirts above a crowd of top hats, under strings of lanterns and the lettering "Champs-Élysées, Jardin de Paris, spectacle varié, concert promenade". Jules Chéret designed the poster for the Jardin de Paris, the open-air café-concert in the gardens of the Champs-Élysées run by Joseph Oller of the Moulin Rouge, where Jane Avril and La Goulue danced in summer; he made several versions of it in the 1890s. The red lettering, the white dress and the flying skirts are printed in his overlapping spatter by Chaix, Paris. The impression reproduced is in the Bibliothèque nationale de France.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
