- Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji
At low tide a sandbar links the shore to the island of Enoshima, where a village of tiled roofs climbs a wooded hill topped by a pagoda, and small travellers walk out across the sand. To the right, beyond the calm water and a single sailing boat, Mount Fuji rises white. The print belongs to Hokusai's Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, published around 1830–1832 by Nishimuraya Yohachi (Eijudō). Enoshima, off the coast of Sagami province, was a popular pilgrimage site, and visitors could walk across to it when the tide was out. The soft colours give the scene a hazy seaside light; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
