A huge squared timber is propped up at a steep angle on a trestle, with one sawyer standing on top and another working beneath it, while a third man sharpens a saw and smoke from a fire billows up to the right. Through the frame of the trestle, a snow-capped Fuji appears among clouds. The print belongs to Hokusai's Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, published around 1830–1832 by Nishimuraya Yohachi (Eijudō). Tōtōmi province lay to the west of the mountain, in timber country. Hokusai frames the mountain with the strong diagonal of the log and the lines of the trestle; impressions vary in colour and condition.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
