Concentric discs and rings of red, yellow, blue, green and violet spin across a square canvas two and a half metres wide; among them, at upper right, a biplane flies above a small Eiffel Tower, and at lower left a propeller turns. Delaunay painted it in tempera in 1914 as a tribute to Louis Blériot, the aviation pioneer who had flown across the English Channel in 1909. An inscription at lower left dedicates the first simultaneous solar discs to the great builder Blériot, honouring him as a constructor of machines rather than as a pilot. The circular forms come from Delaunay's study of the chemist Michel-Eugène Chevreul's laws of simultaneous colour contrast, and the poet Guillaume Apollinaire had called this kind of painting Orphism. A second version is in the Musée de Grenoble. This one is in the Kunstmuseum Basel.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.

Size. We'd hang this one at 24×36. Prints at 12×18, 16×24, 24×36 in — 12×18 for a shelf, desk or a gallery-wall grid; 16×24 above a desk, console or in a hallway; 24×36 as the statement piece above a sofa or bed.
Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — natural wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
