A woman lies on a red couch with her arms raised behind her head and her eyes half closed, her long body painted in a single warm ochre against a dark red blanket and a white pillow, her face reduced to the almond eyes and small mouth of all Modigliani's sitters. It belongs to the series of about thirty nudes he painted in Paris in 1916 and 1917 for his dealer Léopold Zborowski, whose exhibition at the Berthe Weill gallery in December 1917 was closed by the police on its opening day for indecency; the directness of the gaze and the visible body hair were the offence. The painting passed through the collection of the Turin industrialist Riccardo Gualino and was sold at Christie's in New York in 2015 for 170 million dollars to the Shanghai collector Liu Yiqian, who shows it at his Long Museum.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.

Size. We'd hang this one at 24×16. Prints at 18×12, 24×16 in — 18×12 for a shelf, desk or a gallery-wall grid; 24×16 above a console or sideboard.
Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — natural wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
