Men from an iron foundry stretch, wash and spar in the yard at the noon break, in hard sunlight against the brick walls and chimneys of the works. Anshutz, a student of Eakins, painted it in 1880 after sketching at a nail factory in Wheeling, West Virginia, and it is often called the first American painting of industrial labour. It is in the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
