A woman in a red hat with a towering plume holds a child in a sailor cap, a man in a top hat beside them, under the lettering "Halle aux Chapeaux, les plus élégants pour hommes, dames et enfants, depuis 3 fr. 60, 17 rue de Belleville". Jules Chéret designed the poster in 1892 for the hat shop in Belleville, a working-class quarter, and made the family, their hats and the price the whole subject. The red, the yellow and the pale blue ground are printed in his overlapping spatter by Chaix, Paris. The impression reproduced is in the Bibliothèque nationale de France.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
