A man in a white suit, cigar in hand, stands over three young women with long dark hair who sit in a row in low-cut dresses, one with a green feather in her hair, under the lettering "Le Journal, chaque jour 6 pages au moins, publie La Traite des Blanches, grand roman inédit par Dubut de Laforest". Steinlen designed the poster in 1899 to announce the newspaper's serialisation of a novel about the trade in women, and drew the procurer and his victims without caricature. The white suit, the dark hair and the red chair are printed by Charles Verneau, Paris. The impression reproduced is in the Bibliothèque nationale de France.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
