A man stands on the rocks at the water's edge looking across a perfectly still bay to the lighthouse on Owl's Head, with a ship at anchor and a pale pink sky. Lane sailed to the Maine coast in the summers of the 1850s and 1860s and painted it in absolute calm. It is in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
