A little girl in a red dress sits on a chair drinking from a bowl of milk while three cats watch her, hoping for a share, under the lettering "Lait pur de la Vingeanne stérilisé". Steinlen designed the poster in 1894 for the sterilised milk of the Quillot brothers' dairy at Montigny-sur-Vingeanne in Burgundy; the girl is his daughter Colette and the cats are his own. It is the gentlest of his posters and one of the most popular, the red dress and the three cats making a single warm shape against the pale ground. Printed by Charles Verneau, Paris. The impression reproduced is in the Bibliothèque nationale de France.
This full-bleed edition prints the work edge to edge from a high-resolution scan of the original, very slightly cropped (a few percent at most) to fit the sheet. The gallery edition shows the whole work, uncropped. The original is in the public domain.
