Salome dances bare-breasted against a midnight sky full of stars, her head thrown back in a smile and one arm raised, with jewels at her throat, wrists and hair and a pale gauzy skirt at her hips. At the lower right a dark-skinned servant holds out the head of John the Baptist on a dish, ringed by a blue halo. Stuck painted the subject in 1906, drawing among other things on Oscar Wilde's play, which cast Salome as a femme fatale. He made more than one version that year; this canvas is in the Lenbachhaus in Munich.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
Midnight blue, pale skin and glinting jewels make a dramatic, adult picture for a study, dressing room or dark-walled living room. Pair it with Rossetti's Proserpine, another fatal beauty, at 16×24 in a black frame.

Size. We'd hang this one at 16×24. Prints at 12×18, 16×24 in — 12×18 for a shelf, desk or a gallery-wall grid; 16×24 above a desk, console or in a hallway.
Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — black suits the deep tones of this period; dark wood warms it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
