Two hunters, disguised under white wolf skins, crawl through the grass toward a herd of buffalo on the open prairie, bows ready. Buffalo were used to wolves following the herd, so the disguise let hunters get within bowshot. Catlin saw the method on the upper Missouri in 1832. It is in the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
A wide green prairie with a herd of buffalo for a study, den or cabin in a dark wood frame. It suits sage or warm white walls.
