Stu-mick-o-súcks, head chief of the Kainai (Blood) people of the Blackfoot Confederacy, sits holding a pipe, his face painted and his shirt fringed with hair and quillwork. Catlin painted him at Fort Union on the upper Missouri in 1832, on the first of his journeys to paint the peoples of the Plains, and considered it one of his finest portraits. It is in the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
