A tangle of sleeping young women swirls across a dark brown ground, their limbs and faces wound together in a loose oval. At the centre one lies with her arms raised, wrapped in a gown of violet, blue and black spirals scattered with orange flowers, and the others are draped in green, pink and floral fabrics. Klimt painted it in 1913, late in his career, and it is also known in English as The Maiden. The central figure in her patterned gown is ringed by six other women. It is in the National Gallery Prague.
