A band of cowboys gallops headlong toward the viewer across the desert, some turning in the saddle to fire back at pursuing riders. Remington painted it in 1889 for the Chicago collector Edward Ayer, and it was his first major success as a painter, shown at the National Academy of Design that year. It is in the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, Fort Worth.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
A thundering western scene for a den, study or lodge in a dark wood frame. It suits warm white or sand walls. Not for children's rooms.
