Two cowboys pause at a gate in a barbed-wire fence on a grey winter day, one dismounted to open it. Remington painted it in 1895 to illustrate Owen Wister's essay 'The Evolution of the Cow-Puncher', and the fence stands for the end of the open range. It is in the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, Fort Worth.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
