A new iron truss bridge, painted red, crosses the Shetucket River near Windham, Connecticut, seen through a screen of summer trees and reflected in the water. The bridge replaced an old covered bridge, and Weir is said at first to have resented it before finding it a good subject. It is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
A green summer river with a bold red bridge for a living room, study or hallway in a dark wood frame. It suits white or sage walls and is a gift for an engineer.

Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — dark wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
