Three generations of the family of the New York banker Alfrederick Smith Hatch, fifteen people in all, gather in the library of their Park Avenue house among red curtains, bookcases and a marble fireplace. Johnson painted it in 1870–71, a portrait of a prosperous Gilded Age household. It is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This full-bleed edition prints the work edge to edge from a high-resolution scan of the original, very slightly cropped (a few percent at most) to fit the sheet. The gallery edition shows the whole work, uncropped. The original is in the public domain.
